20-December-2011

If you are looking for a unique gift to give to the person who has everything, how about a donation to the Attawapiskat Band.  You will be giving to a person who has nothing, and you will also be giving a totally Canadian gift.  Here is the information needed to donate to a community in need!

HSBC Bank at 190 Third Ave, Timmins, Ontario  P4N 1C8

Thank you in advance for your help and generosity.  Wishing you all peace and happiness in 2012.

16-Dec-11

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Write for Rights.  Let's hope our collective effort bears some fruit.
On 15-December Moccasin Telegraph was honoured with the presence of Anna Wilson, who is very active in the Aboriginal volunteer community.  Anna graced us with a couple of original songs yesterday, which I hope to get posted within the next couple of weeks.  We are in the process of obtaining information from Attawapiskat Band Office to facilitate all of us to help out directly, and will post it here to the blog as soon as we can.
Anna also gave us a great idea for a place to spend your Christmas volunteer hours.  Volunteering at the Native Seniors Centre near Northgate will allow you an opportunity to spend time with Elders of the community - much more fun than going to the library and trying to research original historic stories on-line.  So if you are looking to give some of your time for Christmas, please contact Will Belcourt at manager@nativeseniorscentre.ca and let him know you want to lend a hand.  Everyone at the Native Seniors Centre will love you for it, and you will love yourself for the gifts you will receive in turn - think great stories, gratitude for helping out, bannock ... Did someone say bannock?  Anyway, you get my drift - see you at the bannock counter.

WRITE FOR RIGHTS

Are you tired of the way Stephen Harper's government is NOT helping Attawapiskat?  Are you frustrated by government's lack of transparency?  Are you angry with the continued lack of response to violence against children?
Whatever your issue - it's time to make yourself heard!!
On December 10th - International Human Rights Day - CJSR and the wonderful woodford are hosting a Write for your Rights party!
Come to Room 0-10 in SUB at the University of Alberta campus on Saturday, 10th of December 2011 from 11:30 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.
We will have information to assist you in writing a good letter; we will have materials for writing the letters - paper, printer, pens and so on; we might also have tea and coffee with a biscuit or muffin or some such thing.
Please - bring your complaints and your scorching writing wit ... not to mention all of your highly motivated friends ... and take part in our Write for your Rights.  Let's all exercise our democratic RIGHT to be heard.
